Kesikese Melash is an area in the Southern part of Eritrea bordering Ethiopia and is inhabited by Tigrigna and Saho ethnic communities. Kesikese Milash area comprises 132 villages and includes the renowned cultural, religious and ancient historical places of Belew Kelew, Metera, Kesikese, and Senafe whose history dates back to 2,500 years. The communities in the area live in harmony maintaining their rich cultural and religious heritages. The people living in these areas have been enormously affected by the Eritrean-Ethiopian border war that broke out in 1997. many people from these areas were displaced from their homes and many more were forced to flee the country and seek refuge in different parts of the world.

In Ontario (Kitchener and surrounding areas), we have formed the Kesekese Melash Association since 2019 which is comprised of about 200 individuals and 300 minors. We meet twice yearly for the get-together, perform cultural practices, and support each other. We strive to transfer our traditions and values to our children. We realize that our people have gone through a lot of trauma and suffering before coming to Canada.

We are always trying to find ways of helping our community to get out of this situation and live a happy life. We are continuously helping each other and building a sense of community to many people by conducting various activities.

 Our association is independent of any political and religious affiliation and treats all members equally regardless of gender and religion.
